I'm particular about the movies I watch--I don't like to waste my time on poorly made films and I rarely watch a movie twice. I like documentaries best, with an occasional drama or comedy thrown in.
I've learned that if a movie has won a Sundance Film Festival award, it's going to be good. So, this year I hope to join my brother Mitch in volunteering. Here are the reasons I gave on my application for wanting to volunteer:
One reason I want to volunteer is that I want to be a part of the process that allows these movies to be discovered.
The second reason is that I'm part artist, and I greatly appreciate the support, encouragement and opportunities that Sundance gives to budding filmmakers.
These filmmakers bring light to the beauty, tragedy, enlightenment and heartache that make us human. Their movies make me cry, laugh, squirm, rant, shout, contemplate and wonder--sometimes all in one movie. Where else do so many emotions run through our lives, reminding us that we're alive! We're beautiful! We're horrid! We're one giant mind with as many ideas as there are stars!
That's what Sundance films do to me and I want to be a part of it.
